Description
This Bizen teacup is by Hisanaga Koide, who made his long-awaited debut after completing a lengthy apprenticeship under Juro Harada. Through a combination of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques, he has achieved a powerful form that incorporates a pleasing sense of distortion. Despite this, the weight is perfectly balanced—neither too heavy nor too light—a testament to Mr. Koide’s genuine skill and meticulous craftsmanship. The dark shiso (perilla-leaf) color paired with a somewhat dry-textured sesame glaze creates a surface that will continue to evolve with use.
