Description

This sake cup is by Kazuhiro Mori, an artist who followed in the footsteps of his father, a man who dedicated his life to the large-kiln firing technique, and who himself aspires to recreate the powerful beauty of ancient Bizen ware through the same method. While it may appear to be hand-formed at first glance, it is actually made using a mold; this, combined with the Kanpu clay, creates the primitive texture characteristic of the Togaku school. The dark brown, fine-grained clay is accented by a scattered, elegant ash glaze. Inside the cup, a slightly scorched yellow ash glaze highlights the clarity of the sake.
