Description

This O-gama (large kiln) sake cup is the work of Kazuhiro Mori, who follows in the footsteps of his father, a man who has dedicated his life to large-kiln firing, and who himself aspires to recreate the powerful beauty of ancient Bizen pottery through this traditional firing technique. While molded, the cup features intricate textures that resemble hand-sculpting, with deliberate design elements such as faceted marks that make it impossible to tell it was made from a mold. Its slender, cylindrical form makes it suitable for enjoying not only cold sake, but also Western spirits. Fired in the extraordinary Samukaze O-gama, it displays a unique aesthetic—distinct from standard kilns—with a subtly shimmering black surface and fine-grained "sesame" ash glaze. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 6.4cm × 6.3cm × Height 7.4cm

About the "Kazuhiro Mori Special Feature" Kazuhiro Mori was born the eldest son of Togaku Mori, graduating from the Kyoto College of Art in 1987 and the Tokyo Glass Art Institute in 1991. He began studying pottery under his father, Togaku Mori, in 1992. He specializes in coil-building and wheel-throwing techniques, creating works such as crane-neck vases. He held his first kiln firing and became independent in 1995. He was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition in 1998, and held debut exhibitions at department stores in Okayama and Hiroshima in 1999 and 2000. In 2002, he exhibited his work at the first Gakuen-kai Exhibition, featuring the Togaku Mori school.
