Description

This is a colored Bizen sake cup by Anjin Abe, an artist who possesses profound insight into and an aesthetic sense for antique ceramics, creating one-of-a-kind works through his original research and firing techniques. We have just received a new piece of his "Mt. Fuji" sake cup, which is the most popular among his colored sake cups. This piece features an impressive composition of a towering, snow-capped Mt. Fuji, set against a beautifully vibrant, lustrous red background. The clay body is thoroughly vitrified and possesses a rich, viscous texture. Much like the ever-changing face of Mt. Fuji throughout the four seasons, this colored Mt. Fuji by Abe is a spectacular work that reveals a variety of expressions. (*There is a slight wobble, but it stabilizes when filled with sake.) Diameter 6.7cm x 6.0cm x Height 6.2cm Anjin Abe was originally a Western-style painter. He began collecting ceramics as a hobby, but finding contemporary Bizen ware unsatisfying, he started pottery in 1972 to create works that met his own standards. He frequently creates water jars, flower vases, flat jars, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups. All pieces are wheel-thrown and finished with a spatula. His work is based on Momoyama-period antique Bizen, and he is deeply committed to his firing techniques. He is also actively engaged in diverse creative activities, presenting works that combine various materials and techniques, such as ceramics, lacquer, oil painting, and bronze (mixed media). He holds solo exhibitions energetically both in Japan and abroad, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
