Description

This Ibe sake cup is the work of Iwao Kaneshige, who was born and raised in the prestigious Kaneshige family and has been diligently honing his craft at the kiln where his legendary predecessors, Toyo Kaneshige and Michiaki Kaneshige, fired their pottery for generations. The simple composition, relying solely on the qualities of the clay, is a style unique to Iwao-sensei, who places deep trust in Bizen clay. The clay's rich, subtly orange-tinged texture is exceptionally fine, promising to become even more beautiful with use. Its simple style, underpinned by a stoic approach, ensures that it can be enjoyed for a lifetime without ever growing tiresome. Signed wooden box (double-slat lid)
Diameter 7.6cm x 7.5cm x Height 3.9cm Iwao Kaneshige is the eldest son of Michiaki Kaneshige. Born and raised in a family of Bizen ware artists, he embarked on his own path in ceramics out of a personal love for the craft. After refining his technical skills under the guidance of the Kaneshige family, he became independent in 1995 and held his first solo exhibition at a gallery in Okayama. He has also participated in Kaneshige family exhibitions in 1999 and 2001.
