Description

This Bizen sake cup was created by Saku Inari, who studied under the master Yu Fujiwara and crafts works with the same bold, spirited style as his mentor. His style bears the clear influence of Fujiwara throughout, perhaps suggesting that his reverence for his teacher has elevated his technical prowess. The exterior features a profound, rich shiso (perilla-leaf) color, while the interior boasts a lovely, soft, and moist pale orange hue. The large, simple form fits comfortably in a slightly larger hand, making it a delightful piece with a rustic character that can be used without reservation. (*Please note that while this is a slightly older work, there are almost no signs of use.) Signed wooden box (double-slatted lid)
Diameter 7.5cm × Diameter 7.5cm × Height 5.4cm Saku Inari was inspired to become a potter after being moved by the works of Yu Fujiwara, which he saw at a gallery while attending Aoyama Gakuin University, and was drawn to the craft closest to the earth. In 1974, after graduating, he became a live-in apprentice to Yu Fujiwara to master the techniques of pottery. In 1985, he built an anagama climbing kiln near the birthplace of Yumeji Takehisa in Oku Town, and in 1986, he became independent and held his debut exhibition in Okayama. He is dedicated to his solo exhibitions, which are held annually at department stores in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, and elsewhere.
