Description

This black rectangular dish is the work of Masao Akitani, who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with original sensibility within a fresh atmosphere. While the piece features a simple oval form, Akitani’s artistic flair shines through in the stepped design of the rim and the gradation between the black and orange clay tones that accentuate the depth of the interior. The black surface provides an overall sense of refinement, beautifully highlighting the vibrant colors of vegetables and fruits. The scarlet hues of the *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings blend with the black and orange, creating a gentle, warm aesthetic despite the piece being a black-toned work.
