Description
This is a black square plate by Masao Akiya, a ceramicist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates pieces brimming with original character amidst a modern spirit. While it has a simple, oval-shaped form, the stepped rim design and the gradation between black and *goma* (sesame glaze) that emphasizes the depth of the interior showcase Akiya-sensei's brilliant sense of style. The black surface tightens the overall aesthetic, which will beautifully accentuate the vivid colors of vegetables and fruits. The scarlet *hidasuki* (fire cord) markings blend with the black and *goma* tones, allowing you to enjoy the shifting hues as you use the piece.
