Description

This is a new black Raku tea bowl by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his work with clay, firing, and form. Fired in a newly designed kiln rather than a traditional Raku kiln, the black surface of this piece has transformed into shades of yellow and reddish-purple. The texture, reminiscent of golden mist rising in the darkness, becomes deeper the more one looks at it, and the vivid green of matcha will surely look striking against the gold and black surface. While the form reflects a restraint of deliberate artifice to the extreme, it is simultaneously packed with the most delicate movements of the clay; combined with its colors, it is a bowl that evokes a sense of "the universe," possessing both void and infinity.
