Description

This is a new Ido-style sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his work with clay, firing techniques, and form. As if yearning for the great masterpieces of Ido ware, Mr. Morimoto has poured himself into this creation; though brand new, it possesses a commanding presence that makes it seem as if it has aged for many years. From the adjustment of the glaze to the beauty of the three-tiered expansion of the body, one can feel that every moment of its creation was approached with unwavering focus. The piece itself is highly absorbent, and witnessing the transformation of its glaze crackle and texture over time is one of the joys of owning it. (Due to the nature of the work, it cannot hold sake for extended periods. Please be aware of this in advance.) Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipment).
Diameter 9.4cm x 9.1cm x Height 4.8cm Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976. He completed his studies at the Bizen Pottery Center in 1996. After working independently, he held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2004. Since then, he has held annual solo exhibitions primarily in Tokyo and across the country. He was selected for the Tanabe Art Museum's "The Art of Tea" exhibition in 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2008, he exhibited at the "Contemporary Sake Ware Exhibition" at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi, Tokyo, and in 2009, he exhibited at the "Contemporary Tea Bowl Exhibition" at the same venue. In 2010, he held a solo exhibition titled "Yoshinobu Morimoto Feature" at Tenmaya in Okayama, among many others.
