Description

This is a new Ido-style sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who is constantly evolving in his approach to clay, firing, and form. Much like the artist himself, who became obsessed with the masterpieces of Ido ware, this latest creation possesses a striking presence that makes it seem as though it has already aged for many years. From the adjustment of the glaze to the beauty of the three-tiered flared body, picking it up and examining it reveals the relentless attention to detail with which it was crafted. The piece is designed to easily absorb sake, and watching its character evolve—from the deepening of the crackle glaze to the richness of the texture—is one of its great pleasures. (Please note that due to the nature of this piece, sake cannot be left in the cup for long periods.) Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipment).
Diameter 9.5cm × 9.3cm × Height 4.9cm Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976. He completed the Bizen Ceramics Center program in 1996. After working independently, he held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2004. Since then, he has held annual solo exhibitions throughout Japan, with a focus on Tokyo. He was selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art’s "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
