Description

This is an Ibe tea bowl by Tomio Ochi, who works diligently at the kiln under the tutelage of Yasuhito Abe, pouring his still-unsatiated aspirations into his pottery. The work features a unique form reminiscent of Yasuhito Abe, combined with a sophisticated yellow sesame glaze accentuated by crackle. The base, which feels substantial in the hand, has a very powerful, thick-walled foot. The glossy, chocolate-colored surface conveys the passion Ochi puts into his kiln firing. Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 12.3cm × Diameter 11.8cm × Height 9.1cm Tomio Ochi graduated from Niihama Technical High School in Ehime Prefecture in 1949. In 1952, he moved to Tokyo to study oil painting and sculpture. Thereafter, he pursued painting and sculpture while working a corporate job. In 1997, he visited Yasuhito Abe in Ushimado, Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture, to seek his mentorship, and in 1998, he built his own kiln in Ushimado, where he began creating Bizen ware, drawing upon his background in sculpture and painting.
