Description
This is a new Ibe gourd-shaped sake bottle by Masashiro Aiga, an artist who creates works that are unfailingly straightforward and have real backbone. With a surface color somewhere between black and purple, reminiscent of a reduction of red wine, it is a piece that fascinates the viewer even without special ornamentation. The three-dimensional "goma" (ash glaze) perfectly matches the rich earthy texture, and it is wonderful how small grains gather and rise to create a refined scorched-ash effect. The more you look at it, the more you appreciate the craftsmanship; it possesses an elegance that keeps it from becoming tiresome, despite its intense scenery.
