Description
This is a white Bizen sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. This white Bizen piece is fired in an anagama (climbing kiln) using a "semi-porcelain" clay, a blend of porcelain and pottery clay. The white surface of the semi-porcelain clay appears coated in a translucent, glass-like layer, and its unique enamel-like texture gives it a remarkably cool aesthetic. The contrast between the white surface and the gray ash glaze inside the cup creates a fresh, striking landscape of white, black, and silver that is truly unlike anything seen before.
