Description

This is a white Bizen sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life’s joy in creating works and firing kilns. This white Bizen piece is fired in an ascending kiln using a "half-porcelain" clay, a blend of porcelain and pottery clay. The white surface of the half-porcelain clay appears coated in a transparent, glass-like glaze, lending the enamel-like texture a wonderfully cool aesthetic. With the Bizen "sesame" (ash glaze) speckled across the white surface, it takes on the appearance of gold dust, offering a distinct variation from the typical sesame patterns found on Bizen ware. Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 6.1cm × Diameter 6.0cm × Height 6.4cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba. Considering a future as a ceramic artist from an early age, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden the scope of his pottery. In 2006, he graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in sculpture and went on to refine his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
