Description

This is a Bizen yohen sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating pieces and firing kilns. The work combines a rigid form, reminiscent of hollowed-out rock, with traditional Bizen ash-covered yohen (kiln-change) glazing. It is not merely a matter of paring away clay; the artist is conscious of beauty as a three-dimensional object, resulting in a work that is truly compelling to behold. The interior features finger-pressed indentations along with a faint scarlet hue, making this a sake cup that offers a highly satisfying experience with use. Signed wooden box (double-slatted)
Diameter 6.3cm x Diameter 5.8cm x Height 5.3cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ceramic artist Shosuke Baba. Considering a future as a ceramic artist from an early age, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his perspective on pottery. He graduated from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006 and further honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. He is currently active, primarily with solo exhibitions at major department stores.
