Description

This Ibe sake cup is the work of Iwao Kaneshige, who was born and raised in the prestigious Kaneshige family and has been diligently honing his craft at the kiln where his legendary predecessors, Toyo Kaneshige and Michiaki Kaneshige, fired their works for generations. Rather than forcing kiln effects through artifice, he relies on the minute amounts of ash that settle on the piece during the firing process. The exposed clay body transitions in color from the classic Bizen shiso-red to a Nanban-style orange. The foot is crafted to be thin and tall, giving the overall piece a refined and slender impression. Signed wooden box (double-slat lid)
Diameter 6.2cm x Diameter 5.9cm x Height 6.1cm Iwao Kaneshige is the eldest son of Michiaki Kaneshige. Born and raised in a family of Bizen ware artists, he chose the path of pottery because of his own love for the craft. He refined his skills under the guidance of the Kaneshige family, went independent in 1995, and held his first solo exhibition at a gallery in Okayama. He has exhibited in the Kaneshige Family Exhibition in 1999 and 2001.
