Description

This is a Bizen black sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds joy in life through creating works and firing kilns. The sake cup features a charming silhouette, reminiscent of a tea bowl in miniature. The thoroughly fired surface has turned a deep black, which, combined with its elegant form, gives it a sophisticated presence. Beneath the generous coating of sesame glaze, hints of blue kiln transformation peek through, characteristic of a fine black-ware piece. Signed wooden box (double-slatted lid)
Diameter 7.1cm × Diameter 7.0cm × Height 5.7cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba. Thinking from a young age that he would become a ceramic artist, he chose to study sculpture at university to broaden the scope of his ceramics. After graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts sculpture department in 2006, he furthered his training at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. He is currently active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
