Description

This latest Bizen sake cup is the work of Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist and former apprentice to the late master Sozan Kaneshige. It features Koriki’s signature "black Bizen" style, created using clay that naturally turns black during the firing process. Rather than a cold, stark black, the surface has a warm, inviting quality reminiscent of melted chocolate. The interior is generously coated with lightly scorched yellow sesame ash glaze (homa), with delicate ridges that help aerate the sake, enhancing its clarity and making for a truly enjoyable drinking experience. Signed wooden box (shiho-zan) included.
Diameter 6.6cm x 6.6cm x Height 5.9cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he pursued a path in ceramics. After graduating from high school, he studied pottery techniques under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989. Following seven years of apprenticeship, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996, and successfully held his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual exhibitions since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Kita no Kashiki" (Northern Confectionery Vessels) Exhibition, and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chanoyu no Zokei" (Forms of Tea) Exhibition for the first time.
