Description

This is a Bizen tea cup by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige school. Its relaxed and composed style is as dignified as that of a seasoned master, perhaps reflecting his absolute confidence in the refined clay. The exterior features a somewhat heavy shiso-red hue, while the interior reveals the earthy, slightly reddish tone of the clay; the absence of glaze allows for an infinite variety of shifts in appearance. Its unpretentious, stately form is perfect for everyday use. Signed wooden box (double-slatted lid)
Diameter 8.0cm x Diameter 8.0cm x Height 9.3cm Jumpei Kaneshige was born in Komaba, Tokyo in 1972 as the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige. He graduated from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Waseda University in 1994. In 2000, he completed a graduate program in sculpture at Long Island University in New York, and upon returning to Japan, he studied under his father, Kosuke Kaneshige.
