Description

This Bizen sake cup is by Takeshi Ikeshiki, an artist who stays true to the name of his "Fugen-gama" kiln—which translates to "silent kiln"—by letting his actions speak louder than words as he consistently challenges himself to emulate the masterpieces of the past, captivating audiences with his brilliant and bold works. While it features a classic Bizen style with a brownish clay body lightly dusted with a dried yellow sesame glaze (kare-goma), the superb quality of the craftsmanship elevates it to an exceptionally high standard. The yellow sesame glaze, where the flow of the fire can be clearly sensed, is incredibly refined and replicates the aesthetic of ancient Bizen pottery perfectly. The powerful form is also masterful, crafted with the same level of attention to detail as a tea bowl, and the flow of the glaze around the rim is so elegant that it keeps the eyes tracing its lines endlessly. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included.
Diameter 6.8cm × Diameter 6.3cm × Height 5.9cm Takeshi Ikeshiki was born in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture, in 1961. After studying Japanese, Korean, and Chinese ceramics in various regions, he built a five-chamber climbing kiln and a single-chamber anagama kiln at his current location in January 1994. He has been presenting his work in solo exhibitions since 1995.
