Painted Bizen Sake Cup

This is a new colored Bizen sake cup by Anjin Abe, an artist with deep insight into ancient pottery and a refined aesthetic sense, who creates one-of-a-kind works through his unique research and firing techniques. This is a new series of colored Bizen pieces designed for versatile, free-form use, including tea cups, shochu cups, and cylindrical tea bowls. The entire surface of this large sake cup serves as a canvas, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the world of Anjin. Amidst the glamorous colors accented with gold and red, the beautiful, transparent turquoise blue is particularly eye-catching. The rich "goma" (ash glaze) texture and the turquoise blue enhance one another, adding a touch of splendor to the piece while further emphasizing the profound, traditional firing style reminiscent of ancient Bizen. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 8.6cm × Diameter 8.5cm × Height 9.0cm Anjin Abe was originally a Western-style painter. While he collected pottery as a hobby, he felt that contemporary Bizen lacked something, and in 1972, he began pottery to create pieces that satisfied his own standards. He frequently creates water jars, flower vases, flattened jars, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups, all of which are wheel-thrown and finished with a spatula. His approach to pottery is centered on Momoyama-period ancient Bizen, with a particular focus on the firing process. He is also engaged in diverse creative activities, exhibiting mixed-media works that combine various materials and techniques such as ceramics, lacquer, oil painting, and bronze. He holds solo exhibitions energetically both in Japan and abroad, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
