Colored Bizen Sake Cup

This is a new colored Bizen sake cup by Anjin Abe, an artist who possesses deep insight and an aesthetic sensibility for ancient pottery, and who creates one-of-a-kind works through his unique research and firing techniques. This is a new series recently produced, consisting of colored Bizen pieces that can be used freely for various purposes, including teacups, shochu cups, and cylindrical tea bowls. The entire surface of this large cup serves as a canvas, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the world of Anjin. Among the glamorous colors embellished with gold and red, the beautiful, transparent turquoise blue stands out. The rich sesame-glaze effect and the turquoise blue enhance one another, adding a touch of splendor to the work while further emphasizing the profound, ancient Bizen-style firing quality. Diameter 8.7cm × Diameter 8.7cm × Height 9.0cm Anjin Abe was originally a Western-style painter. He collected ceramics as a hobby, but feeling dissatisfied with contemporary Bizen ware, he began working in ceramics in 1972 to create pieces that he could find satisfying himself. He frequently creates water jars, flower vases, flattened jars, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups. All are wheel-thrown and finished with a spatula. His pottery is centered on the ancient Bizen style of the Momoyama period, with a particular focus on firing techniques. He is also involved in diverse expressive activities, presenting mixed-media works that combine various materials and techniques such as ceramics, lacquer, oil painting, and bronze. He holds solo exhibitions energetically both in Japan and abroad, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
