Description

This is a Bizen katakuchi (spouted bowl) by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. Easy to care for and simple to enjoy, these pouring vessels are gaining popularity as they add a touch of authentic atmosphere to any drinking occasion. While it is a piece intended for casual use, the quality is exceptionally high, featuring the refined, sophisticated clay texture characteristic of Koriki, accented by an elegant "goma" (sesame) ash glaze. The body is finished with horizontal spatula marks followed by vertical ones to create crisp edges, which, combined with the "abata" (pockmarked) base, results in a piece of truly impressive craftsmanship. Diameter 8.8cm × Diameter 7.8cm × Height 12.7cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, a lover of ceramics, he aspired to pursue pottery. After graduating from high school, he studied under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989, honing his skills for seven years. In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become an independent artist, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "I Want to Use This: Northern Confectionery Container Exhibition," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chanoyu (Tea Ceremony) Form Exhibition" for the first time.
