Description

This is a Bizen yohen guinomi (sake cup) by Shingo Koyama, who was born as the eldest son of the second generation Issou Koyama and trained under Sozan Kaneshige. It features a profound, ash-glazed yohen effect characteristic of the Kaneshige school, reflecting the philosophy of being true to the clay and true to the fire. The gosu-zoko (go-bowl style) foot rim displays a luxurious earthen texture, with an oozing scarlet hue complemented by shiso-red and gold accents. The shape of the foot provides stability, and while the cup is somewhat tall, it is easy to use and difficult to tip over even after a few drinks. (Please note that although this is an earlier work, there are almost no signs of use.) Original signed wooden box (shiho-zan) with lid
Diameter 6.2cm × Diameter 6.0cm × Height 6.5cm Shingo Koyama is the eldest son of the second generation Issou Koyama. In 1984, he became an apprentice to Sozan Kaneshige, where he honed his ceramic skills for six years. He subsequently became independent in 1990. He produces many tea ceremony utensils and tableware. He prefers hi-dasuki (fire-cord) firing and focuses primarily on wheel-thrown and hand-beaten pieces, aiming to create works that feel generous and dynamic. He has held solo exhibitions in Urawa, Izumo, Tokyo, and elsewhere.
