Description
This is a new Bizen hidasuki sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. This is a unique "black hidasuki" piece, a style Mr. Morimoto arrived at through rigorous research, featuring streaks of red against a black background. The black areas have a smooth, tactile quality, and the excellence of the firing gives the piece an evocative, fragrant air, creating a presence that appeals to all five senses. The thin-walled, refined, and somewhat antique-inspired form neutralizes the intensity that can often accompany black hidasuki, perfectly balancing the piece to achieve a subtle, understated character.
