Description
This is a new Bizen sake cup by Junpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, a leading figure of the Kaneshige lineage. The artist is committed to traditional methods of clay preparation; he refines the clay by hand without the use of water levigation or pug mills, then lets it age for several years before use. By carefully firing this meticulously prepared clay, he achieves a kiln-altered glaze (yohen) that combines both intensity and elegance, featuring linear markings known as "kumadori" (lining) particularly along the areas where the clay meets the glaze. The large-scale form is paired with a dynamic "nuke" (fire-scarred area), and the texture of the clay in the nuke displays a sweet, delicate scarlet hue that only the Kaneshige family can produce.
Original signed wooden box (shiho-zan) included.
