Description

This new Bizen gourd-shaped sake flask is the work of Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige family. It is a brilliant testament to the results of nurturing clay that has been painstakingly refined and aged for many years. The soft, vibrant scarlet—a color unique to the Kaneshige family, distinct from any shade of vermilion or orange—is truly magnificent. As you use this flask and the sake begins to season the clay, it will eventually transcend its role as a mere tool to become your best partner. The plump, charming gourd shape is endearing, and the two circular "nuke" markings evoke the image of a fruit ripening. Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Rim 3.6cm × Body diameter 9.2cm × Body diameter 9.2cm × Height 14.4cm; Capacity approx. 280cc Jumpei Kaneshige was born in Komaba, Tokyo, in 1972 as the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige. He graduated from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Waseda University in 1994. In 2000, he completed a graduate program in sculpture at Long Island University in New York, USA, and upon returning to Japan, he studied under his father, Kosuke Kaneshige.
