Description

This Ibe sake cup is by Takao Kibata, who made his long-awaited debut after nine years of training as a disciple of Jun Iseki. The thick yellow sesame glaze applied over a deep black body gives the piece a fired finish that evokes the aesthetic of ancient Bizen ware. The skillful firing has also brought a sense of depth to the Ibe clay, creating a nuance that, when gazed upon, feels like ascending into a starry sky. The simple, unadorned form is free of pretension and feels very approachable.
