Description

This is an Ibe teacup by Takao Kibata, who made his long-awaited debut after nine years of diligent training as a disciple of Jun Isezaki. The piece brilliantly draws out the natural qualities of the clay; the beautiful black tone characteristic of Ibe ware combines with the *goma* (ash glaze) to create subtle gradations of shading. The combination of its magnificent clay texture and simple form gives it a stylish, avant-garde ceramic quality, even as a teacup. While the style is modern, it retains the distinctive Bizen ware trait of harmonizing with any space or setting, making it a delightful choice for everyday use.
