Description
This is an Ibe teacup by Takao Kibata, who made his highly anticipated debut after nine years of training as a pupil of Jun Isezaki. The piece brilliantly draws out the natural qualities of the clay, with the beautiful black finish characteristic of Ibe ware combining with the "goma" (ash glaze) to create subtle shadings within the black. The combination of the magnificent texture of the clay and the simple form creates an atmosphere that is both stylish and avant-garde, despite it being a teacup. While the style is modern, it retains the unique Bizen-yaki quality of harmonizing with any space or setting, making it a delightful piece for everyday use.
