Description
This Bizen sake flask is by Takao Kibata, who made his long-awaited debut after nine years of training as a pupil of Jun Isezaki. The piece features an elliptical body combined with a bent, "ku"-shaped silhouette, emphasizing the beauty of its lines through a simple form. True to his reputation for thoroughly researching clay, Kibata has mastered its properties, firing the piece facing the kiln wall to create a contrast born from subtle temperature differences. The side facing the wall is white, while the inward-facing side is carbonized black, resulting in a novel form with a monochrome clay aesthetic that feels remarkably modern.
