Description
This Bizen tea bowl is by Takao Kibata, who made his long-awaited debut after nine years of diligent training as an apprentice under Jun Isezaki. The piece was formed by hitting clay spheres together to create a single ball while retaining the wrinkles, then shaving the base and hollowing out the exterior. The serene beauty of its surfaces and the dynamic beauty of its lines are masterfully unified, resulting in a work that is incredibly impressive as a three-dimensional object. While it features classic Bizen characteristics such as gold metallic coloring and sesame-like ash glaze, it harmonizes these with a modern design to exude a completely fresh atmosphere. The beautifully shining gold accents and the matte carbonized sections create a superb collaboration.
