Description

This Ibe tea bowl was created by Takao Kibata, who made his long-awaited debut after nine years of diligent training as a pupil of Jun Isezaki. The piece was formed by clapping balls of clay together, leaving the resulting wrinkles intact, then carving out the foot and paring away the outer edges to hollow it out. The serene beauty of the surfaces and the dynamic beauty of the lines are harmoniously unified, resulting in a work that is visually striking in its three-dimensionality. The seams formed when the clay balls were joined remain as wrinkles, providing a powerful accent to the hollowed-out structure.
