Description

This is an Ibe sake cup by Takao Kibata, who made his long-awaited debut after nine years of diligent training as a pupil of Jun Isezaki. The Ibe surface has been subjected to reduction firing, resulting in a mysterious finish that is closer to burnished silver than black. The sesame glaze on the front also has a slight greenish tint due to the firing, which suits the black-silver surface beautifully. The simple form, with very little ornamentation, is unobtrusive and very approachable.
