Description

This is a Bizen incense container (kogo) in the shape of a horse by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superior aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. Designed for the Year of the Horse, the incense container depicts the creature in a pose that blends stillness and motion, as if it were just about to break into a run. The rough-hewn design adds a sense of speed to the entire piece. The "yellow sesame" (ki-goma) ash glaze and combed patterns (kushime) are also wonderful, evoking the image of a vast meadow swept by a refreshing breeze. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
