Description
This is a Bizen tea bowl by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige school. With no affectation or pretense, its exceptionally honest and gentle form conveys the earnest sentiment Jumpei holds for Bizen pottery. As if in response to this, the clay has fired to a magnificent shiso-purple hue; the exquisite color, which seems to waver between reddish-brown and reddish-purple, possesses a depth that defies description. The *koge-goma* (scorched sesame ash glaze) on the front has fired to a dark black, yet it has a mysterious, wet-looking luster.
