Description
This is a Bizen sake cup by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of the preeminent artist of the Kaneshige school, Kosuke Kaneshige. The piece was fired with a generous amount of smoke, and a fine, matte-textured "kase-goma" ash glaze covers the work seamlessly, like a veil. The distinctive, elongated "nuke" (unfired or exposed area) is perfectly suited to this overall coating of kase-goma, functioning as an accent that further highlights the beauty of the ash glaze. Moreover, the clear, sharp edge surrounding the nuke is magnificent, and with the beauty of the clay texture visible from within, it can truly be called a perfect example of a kase-goma work.
