Description
This is a Bizen hidasuki sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. It is a work of Morimoto’s signature "black hidasuki," achieved through exhaustive research, featuring vibrant red streaks across a black background. The black areas are smooth and pleasant to the touch, and the superb quality of the firing gives the piece an evocative charm that appeals to all five senses. The *umadarai* (horse-trough) shape, which he has worked on since his debut, continues to evolve under his diligent study; this particular piece has a thin, light, and delicate feel, adding a wabi-sabi, weathered aesthetic typical of unglazed stoneware to the evocative charm of the hidasuki fire-cord markings.
