Bizen sake cup

This is a Bizen sake cup by Living National Treasure Yu Fujiwara, who broadened his horizons beyond Japan to share the appeal of Bizen ware with the world. True to his motto of "simple, clear, and bold," this piece is a straightforward creation with no artifice. It features a rare gray reduced-fired body for one of Fujiwara's *hidasuki* (fire-cord) works, accented by orange *hidasuki* markings. As a piece from his earlier years, before his later period, it features a thin-walled style that, while simple and clear, carries an elegant atmosphere; it offers a glimpse into a new side of Fujiwara's work that differs from his usual *hidasuki*. Signed wooden box (double-braced)
