Description
This new Ibe sake cup is the work of Mashiro Aiga, an artist known for creating uncompromising, spirited pieces. He uses an iron-rich clay base coated with a slip to achieve a deep, black-purple aesthetic, reminiscent of boiled-down purple pigment. By strategically placing fire-resistant clay partitions to shield the piece from falling ash, he has created a lavish, intense effect of "goma" (natural ash glaze) based on an inverted triangle pattern. The mustard-colored, thick goma changes in texture across different areas, ranging from a textured, melon-like skin to a smooth, well-melted finish, reflecting his intense dedication to the firing process.
