Description

This new Ibe sake cup is the work of Mashiro Aiga, an artist known for creating works that are consistently straightforward and full of character. He has used a clay rich in iron content, applying a slip coating to create a rich, black-purple appearance reminiscent of boiled-down purple pigment. He placed pieces of fire-resistant clay around the vessel like screens to deflect the ash during the firing process, resulting in a luxurious, deep coating of "sesame" (ash glaze) centered on an inverted triangular motif. This rich, mustard-colored ash glaze changes its texture from one area to the next, ranging from a melon-like skin to a smooth, well-melted surface, perfectly reflecting the artist's intense dedication to the firing process. Signed box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for delivery)
Diameter 7.0cm x Diameter 6.6cm x Height 5.2cm Mashiro Aiga graduated from the Okayama Prefectural Bizen Pottery Center in 1997. In 2003, he built a fully underground anagama kiln in Sabu. The following year, in 2004, he built a second semi-underground anagama kiln, where he continues to dedicate himself to his craft.
