Description

This yunomi is the work of Shusaku Taku, who takes the moving experiences of daily life and uses them as a "yeast" to give shape to Bizen ware—a craft that has matured alongside the continuous activities of people throughout history. The piece was slowly formed on a potter's wheel, and its slightly wide shape suits the dignified design of its waist and tapered shoulder beautifully. When held, the thumb and index finger fit perfectly into the taper of the shoulder, a thoughtful feature for Bizen ware, which tends to conduct heat. The blue of the dry "kase-goma" ash glaze matches brilliantly with the reddish-brown of the "hidasuki" fire-cord markings, creating a truly magnificent landscape.
