Description
This is a Bizen katakuchi (spouted bowl) by Takashi Soga, who challenges the beauty of antiquity by recreating the same environment in which Old Bizen pottery was fired. This piece was fired using a primitive kiln based solely on his own empirical rules, without the use of any machinery such as electric potter's wheels or thermometers. It features a distinctive "keshiki" (landscape); the black "tasuki" (cord impression) over the red body creates a magnificent color when wetted during use. The fine-grained, matte texture, which is very pleasant to the touch, is characteristic of Soga-sensei’s passion for recreating Old Bizen.
