Description

This Bizen *katakuchi* (spouted bowl) is by Takashi Soga, who challenges the aesthetics of the past by recreating the exact environment in which ancient Bizen ware was fired. Created without the use of any machinery such as electric wheels or thermometers, this piece was fired in a primitive kiln using only the artist's empirical knowledge. Featuring a distinctive *keshiki* (scenery), the combination of red clay and black *tasuki* (cord marks) produces magnificent color when wetted during use. The fine, matte texture, which is extremely pleasant to the touch, is a hallmark of Soga-sensei’s passion for recreating ancient Bizen. Paper box
