Description

This is a new Bizen ware bowl by Takashi Baba, who was born in Inbe and has loved Bizen ware since childhood, finding his life’s joy in crafting works and firing kilns. This free cup commands a powerful presence with its diagonal fluted *shinogi* carving. Its size makes it versatile for various uses, such as for shochu, tea, or as a soba noodle dipping cup. While the sharp cuts accentuate the solid, profound form, the cup is not overly heavy and is comfortable to hold. The firing, known as *yohen hidaski*, is magnificent, combining gray ash-covered surfaces with the distinct scarlet *hidaski* markings. Paper box
Diameter 9.3cm x Diameter 9.0cm x Height 7.7cm Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba. Thinking from a young age that he would become a ceramic artist, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his perspective on ceramics. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in sculpture in 2006 and further honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
