Description
This Bizen kiln-change sake bottle (tokkuri) is an early work by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who carries on the tradition of his grandfather, the master sake vessel maker Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Makoto Nakamura, to create deeply expressive pieces. Fired several years ago, it bears a "Wa" (わ) potter's mark, which differs from his current signature. It is a plump, mellow-shaped gourd-style bottle with a unique atmosphere. The understated sangiri (kiln-floor firing effect) and sesame glaze add a gray tone to the entire piece, which highlights the deep scarlet hues and creates a memorable landscape. (Please note that while this is a slightly older work, it shows little sign of use.)
