Description
This is a new 4-sun Bizen plate by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his approach to clay, firing, and craftsmanship. With a primary focus on the "harmonious pairing"—a central theme in Mr. Morimoto’s recent work—we commissioned this piece to be enjoyed alongside the sake vessels and other items he has released previously. The work is built upon a base of wabi-sabi kiln-altered glazes, featuring the withered texture of sesame (goma) glaze and weathered-looking "kase-goma," contrasted with a vibrant, flame-like scarlet (hiiro) that brings a sense of vital energy to the piece. Together, these elements create a work that embodies a tranquil and austere worldview despite its striking contrast. Resembling fallen or autumn leaves, the scarlet hues are further burnished when the plate is dampened before use, imbuing it with an allure that draws the viewer in, much like an antique Bizen piece recovered from the sea.
