Description
This is a new 4-sun Bizen plate by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who is constantly evolving in his approach to clay, firing, and craftsmanship. Focusing on the theme of "toriawase" (harmonious pairing), which has been central to Morimoto-sensei’s recent work, he has created a piece of tableware designed to be enjoyed in combination with the sake vessels and other works he has released previously. The piece features a wabi-sabi kiln change based on weathered sesame-ash glazes and parched-looking *kase-goma*, contrasted against vibrant, flame-like scarlet tones that evoke a profound sense of quiet simplicity. Looking like a withered leaf or autumn foliage, the beauty of the scarlet is further refined when the plate is dampened before use, giving it a captivating allure reminiscent of ancient Bizen pottery recovered from the sea.
