Description
This is a new 4-sun Bizen plate by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his work with clay, firing, and craftsmanship. With a focus on "coordination"—a central theme in Mr. Morimoto's recent work—he has created this piece of tableware to be enjoyed in harmony with the sake vessels he has released in the past. At just under 15 cm, it is a versatile plate that can be used for a wide range of purposes, such as an appetizer plate for a drinking party or a serving dish for sweets. The firing is precisely in Mr. Morimoto's signature antique Bizen style, featuring layers of fine sesame glaze (*goma*) reminiscent of *maki-e* lacquerware, with a weathered *hidasuki* (fire-cord) pattern that creates a refined, understated landscape.
